greener and greener

The gardens are up, and looking great.  Just in time for the town anniversary (we are, after all, a “centennial” garden).

Updates:

We hope to have flowers to fill up the borders this week–stay posted.

At the moment we have a gopher problem, so you may find your plants nibbled.  However, the great guys over at the Legion are on it, so the nibblers will soon be gone.

We have someone to get the eaves troughs up this week

The stain is in the church office, so call ahead if you wish to paint your box.

The Community Garden To-Do List

Here is where the garden stands:  We have more barrier fabric and mulch, so can finish putting that down, as well as put in the the crushed cement for the path.

We have the rain barrels, so need to determine what we need for gutters, downspouts, attachments, etc. Then we need to put up the gutters, build bases for the barrels, etc.

We are also able to fit in one more box.  We have the wood for that, but will need more screws). Then we can get more dirt from the town for that and for a flower bed along the south edge.

We will be getting some stain for the boxes (various colours) and will ask each gardener/s to paint their own.

The sign up list:

Is there anything up there you would like to help with? When might you be willing to do that? Let us know!

The garden looks amazing. It came together very quickly, thanks to our gardeners, Communities in Bloom and the Alliance Church men. Thanks to everyone for your hard work!

Over the next week or so, we will top up the boxes with black earth, finish the pathways, find a place for compost bin and rain barrels, and put on the finishing touches.  (Feel free to stop by to help out).

Then it will be time to plant.  Hurray!

It’s time to build Strathmore’s first community garden!!

The site of the garden-to-be!

Bring your tools, your gloves, your lunch and some good suntan lotion, because we are creating a garden this Saturday!  We hope to build the boxes and fill them, fix gutters for the rain barrels, and start work on the pathways.  Lots of work, but with the crew we have coming, it will be done in no time at all!

We plan to start at 9:00 am.  Coffee will be provided!
